Milan Reluctant to Pay Over the Odds for Adebayor
Â
AC Milan have been knocked back in their attempts to sign striker Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal after hearing that the English club are looking for a figure of around £36 million pounds before opening talks.
This new asking price will come as a blow to Milan and their vice-president Adriano Galliani who yesterday admitted that the clubs finances were in a precarious position. Galliani was responding to reports that Chelsea had made a huge bid for playmaker Kaka and suggested that in order to alleviate the clubs debts sales of both Kaka and Andrea Pirlo would need to be made.
A price-tag in this region may be seen as a defence mechanism as the Gunners attempt to cling onto their main striker with Robin Van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner the only other real options for them up front in the absence on Eduardo Da Silva through injury.
The Gunners themselves are apparently out of the market for new signings this Summer with manager Arsene Wenger concentrating on promoting even more players from their youth team as he has so successfully done so in the past – striker Carlos Vela the most high profile of the bunch to be given a squad number so far. Although in today’s football climate many look to bring in experienced footballers to aid their chances, Wenger relies on youth and given his success in the past many will be again betting on Arsenal to be victorious in the Premier League this coming season.
It is unlikely that the Rossonieri will give up on the player who they have singled out as their primary transfer target this Summer especially seen as the player himself has recently come out to say that unless Arsenal can meet his wage demands he would ask for a transfer. If the capture of Adebayor becomes impossible though Milan do have a other options with Didier Drogba also known to be high on Carlo Ancelotti’s wish list.
Drogba may not be such an easy transfer target as once thought for Milan though. After meeting with the player, new Chelsea coach Luiz Felipe Scolari believes that the player is happy at the club and if he can handle the striker as well as he does the press ‘Big Phil’ could well end up persuading Drogba to stay. Drogba will not come cheap even if the Italian giants do come knocking and after hearing Arsenal’s asking price for Adebayor, it would be unlikely that Chelsea would be willing to sell for much less.
However unlikely it seems that Milan will get their man this Summer, the signature of either Drogba or Adebayor would strongly increase Milan’s odds of re-claiming the Serie A crown next season and dent both Chelsea or Arsenal’s chances in the race for the Premiership title in the process.
